On Labor Day weekend, we decided we wanted to use the three day weekend to explore California and drink some new beer. First we left the Bay Area to visit the California central valley and some of the breweries there. On the last day of the weekend we decided to stay close to home and visit a brewery in San Francisco. The third brewery we visited during Labor Day weekend was Speakeasy Ales and Lagers!

レイバーデーの3連休は、新しいビールを求めてカリフォルニアを巡ることになりました。 ベイエリアを出発し、初めはセントラル・バリーにあるブリューリー2件に行きました。連休の最終日は、ちょっと近場のサンフランシスコにあるブリューリーに行くことに。ということで、レイバーデー・ビールツアーの3件目はスピークイージーエールズ・アンド・ラガーズです！

Speakeasy Ales and Lagers started brewing in 1997, and is known for their bold and interesting beers. We visited their tap room which was beautifully decorated like the 1920s, with lots of wood grain, monotone floral patterns, and a white, amber, and black color scheme.

スピークイージー・エールズ・アンド・ラガーズは、1997年のオープン以降、その強めではっきりとした味で有名です。 スピークイージーのタップルームは、1920年代のような素敵な内装で、木目やモノトーンな花柄、白・琥珀色・黒を基調にしています。

A “speakeasy” was an illegal place to drink beer during prohibition, when alcohol was illegal in the United States. The Speakeasy tap room had a lot of very unique features that a real speakeasy would have.

「スピークイージー」とは、アメリカの禁酒法時代に違法でアルコールを提供していたバーです。 タップルームは、当時の「スピークイージー」のような面白い作りになっています。

When people wanted to go to the speakeasy they had to say a secret password to the doorman through the view port in the door. Speakeasy tap house has this type of door.

「スピークイージー」に行く人は、バーに入る前にドアについている小さな窓を使って秘密の暗号を言わなければいけませんでした。勿論、タップルームにも小窓の付いたドアがありましたよ

When police would find a speakeasy they would shut it down and arrest everyone inside, so each speakeasy had a secret alarm that would tell everyone to escape if the police were going to “raid.” We found the “Raid Button” at the Speakeasy taproom.

警察に見つかってしまうと、中の人たちは捕まってします。そんな時の為に秘密のアラームがあり、警察の手入れがあった時にはアラームを鳴らし、全員が逃げられるようになっていました。 タップルームにもレイド・ボタン発見！

They used their growlers as light covers. The dark color of the growlers made great mood lighting in the taproom.

また、ライトのカバーにはグラウラーを使ってあり、グラウラーの暗い色でムードのあるライティングになっていました。

The tap room also had a nintendo for drinkers who wanted to play and drink.

タップルームにはニンテンドー (アメリカ版ファミコン) もあり、自由に遊べるようになっています。

When it was time to start tasting beer there was an amazing list of great beers we couldn’t wait to drink!

タップルームを軽く見て廻った後は、勿論試飲！素晴らしいビールのセレクションでした！

It’s very fun to go out to drink so that we can meet new beer buddies and can talk about beer with them. While we were drinking and talking about beer, we met another beer blogger, Mike, from Sacramento.

ビールに舌鼓を打ちながらビールの話をしていると、偶然、サクラメント在住のビールブローガーのマイクさんにお会いしました。お店にビールを飲みに行くと、新しいビール友達が出来て、ビールについて語れるので良いですよね！
